Awards Banquet

This year's Banquet was held Feb. 24th, 2011 & attended by Eagle Scouts Adam Burgess, Wells Galphin, Cody Beitel, Powell Hackler, Mr. Burgess, Mr. Prevatte, Mr. Murray, Mr. Hackler, Mr. Beitel,  & their families.  It featured the largest Eagle Scout class (129) on record for the Cape Fear Council of all time.  Troop 218 had 4 Eagles this year, Wells Galphin, Austin Mann, Cody Beitel & Powell Hackler.  The banquet was held at the Hilton Riverside in Wilmington & honored scouts and leaders from throughout the council.  SM Sam Burgess was awarded the Council Silver Beaver Award & the Eagle Class of 2010 honored Paul Butler of White Lake, NC, a longtime member of the Council Executive Board.

Merit Badges Now Trackable with iPhone App.

In early 2011 Scouts will now be able to track their merit badge progress with a new BSA Merit Badge iPhone app.  Available through iTunes for $1.99 the app will show requirements, progress and even share this with others, if desired.  It joins the Boy Scout Handbook App as another method for scouts to use new technology to aid them in their journey through Scouting.

Eagle Scout Jonathon Yarde Earns all 121 Merit Badges



From Huntington, WV, Jonathon Yarde of Troop 130 becomes only the 103rd scout to earn every merit badge offered.  His favorite was watersports mb.  He achieved his goal July 2009.

Scouting's 100 Year Anniversary Jamboree

Troop 218, Asst. Scoutmaster, Larry Murray, attended this centenial event and helped serve roughly 10,000 lunch meals to hungry scouters in 113 minutes.

 Coastal District Merit Badge College

The Coastal District of the Cape Fear Council will host a merit badge college at Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) on May 14th. 

Participation is limited to 12 scouts per class, so pre-registration is necessary. Cost is $5 which includes lunch. 

Merit badges offered include:
Cooking, Citizenship of the World, Soil & Water Conservation, Weather, Pulp & Paper and Public Health.

Registration is at the Cape Fear Scout Office in person
prior to April 1st.
